Annual E-E-O Public File Report WAVR-FM 2-1-10/WATS 4/1/10

The purpose of this E-E-O Public File Report is to comply with section 73.2080© (6) of the FCC’s 2002 E-E-0 rule. This report has been prepared on behalf of the station employment unit that is comprised of the following stations:

  • WATS (Sayre, Pa)
  • WAVR-FM (Waverly, NY)

And is required to be placed in the public inspection files of these stations, and on our website.

The information contained in this report covers the time period of the 12 months preceeding 2/1/10 for WAVR and 4/1/10 for WATS.

During that time frame we had no full-time openings, permanent openings.

The stations take their E-E-O requirements and responsibilities seriously.

Additional E-E-O outreach efforts:

  • Scholarship Challenge. At each of the 6 Scholarship Challenge High School & Junior High School quiz shows aired on the stations in Jan-Feb & Mar each year, the host (President and General Manager Chuck Carver) reads the script to the participating students & their parents & advisors. Overall audience estimated at 775 persons.
  • Monthly Announcements. As suggested by the State Broadcast Associations…the station airs on the 1st and 16th of the month, an announcement outlining its EEO Policies & Practices.
  • Station Tours. Station Manager Meade Murtland offers tours of the stations to school & community groups. They took place on: 2/5/09; 3/2/09; 4/9/09; 3/24/09; 4/7/09; & 4/21/09.
  • New York State Broadcasterrs 24-7 On-Line Career Listing. Station also employs the 2009 NY state broadcasters on line career opportunity listing, when needed
  • New York State Broadcasters Internship Program. The station employed Joshua Waite as its 2009 intern. The Broome Community College employee worked 180 hours as an introduction to the field of broadcasting and has continued on a part time basis as his schedule permits.
  • Career Days. Station Manager Meade Murtland attended the Mansfield University Job Fair in April2 2009 where he met with 30 students, distributing employment opportunity information. General Manager Chuck Carver attended the 11-13-09 career day at Athens High School, where he spoke to 1 class (total # of students approximately 25) about broadcasting careers.

Narrative on the station’s broad outreach in the preceding 2 year period.

Despite not having a full time opening at the stations in the preceding 2 years, the station continued its non discriminatory practices and broad outreach in a number of ways.

There is a true commitment to fulfilling every local career fair’s invitation to participate. In addition, General Manager Chuck Carver has met individually with students at area high schools who are interested in a shadowing experience or a one-on-one discussion about available careers. (most recently a Waverly High School student in the fall of 2009 who is interested in a future in broadcasting.)

The station attends state association seminars and events which explain and promote compliance with the FCC’s requirements.
